Practical English templates
Viewing request email template, job follow-up and school admissions enquiry: ready-to-copy English messages for UK newcomers, created on your device.
A better-informed decision.
Complete the form to see your breakdown.
This tool writes a short, polite viewing request email, job application follow-up or school admissions enquiry for you, the three messages almost every newcomer to the UK has to send. Choose the message type, enter your name and the property, job or school, and the finished text appears for you to check, copy or download as a text file. Nothing is sent and your name is not stored.
Who it is for
Newcomers who want a clear, correct English message quickly, especially if English is not their first language or they are unsure of the tone British landlords, employers and schools expect.
How the tool works
- Message type: Request a viewing, Follow up a job application, or School admissions enquiry.
- Your name: used in the sign-off after “Kind regards”.
- Property, job or school: the address or listing, job title, or school name. It goes into the first sentence.
- Result: the message in a box you can copy, plus a “Download text” button.
Everything happens on your device, so you can use it without sharing personal data.
What each message asks
| Message | What it asks | When to send it |
|---|---|---|
| Viewing request | Availability, monthly rent, bills included, deposit and documents required | When you find a listing within your budget |
| Job follow-up | Confirms your interest and asks for an update on the recruitment timeline | After a reasonable wait with no reply |
| School enquiry | How to check availability, which documents are needed, and whether to apply through the local authority | Before you move, or as soon as you know your address |
Example: a viewing request
You choose “Request a viewing”, enter the name Ahmed and the property “the two-bedroom flat on Oak Road”. The tool produces:
Hello,
I am interested in the two-bedroom flat on Oak Road and would like to arrange a viewing. Could you confirm availability, the monthly rent, any bills included, the deposit and the documents required?
Please let me know the available viewing times.
Kind regards,
Ahmed
Before sending, you can add one line about yourself, such as your moving date or household size. Short and clear works better than long.
Before you contact a landlord in England
The Renters’ Rights Act changes how private homes are let in England from 1 May 2026. The points that matter when you enquire:
- A landlord cannot ask for rent before the tenancy agreement is signed, and can ask for at most 1 month’s rent in advance after signing.
- Written adverts must show a specific price, and landlords cannot accept or encourage offers above it.
- Landlords cannot refuse a tenant because they are on benefits or have children.
- Most tenancies are now assured periodic tenancies, running on rolling terms with no fixed end date.
In England and Wales, a landlord or agent must protect your deposit in a government-approved scheme within 30 days of receiving it. Scotland and Northern Ireland have separate schemes.
Before you contact a school
In England, GOV.UK says you contact your local council to find state-funded schools and apply for places, and the council gives the admission criteria. That is why the template asks whether to apply through the local authority. The process is different in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
What the tool does not do
- It does not send the message or keep a copy.
- It does not write cover letters or CVs.
- It is not for legal letters, such as challenging an eviction or making a formal complaint.
Common mistakes
- Paying before a viewing and a signed agreement. Never transfer money to someone you have not met, for a home you have not seen.
- A vague email subject. Write “Viewing request” or “Application follow-up” with the property or job.
- Sending without checking. Check the name and address before you copy.
Frequently asked questions
Are the messages formal enough?
Yes, for everyday use. They are polite and direct, and suit email or contact forms on property websites.
Can I edit the text?
Yes. Paste it into your email and change anything you like.
Does the tool save my name?
No. The message is created on your device only.
How long should I wait before a job follow-up?
There is no official rule. If the advert gives a reply date, wait until it has passed.
