THE PRACTICAL GUIDE

Plan your studies: course, visa and budget

Organise academic choices and costs before applying.

By UKpedia24Sources checked: 2026-09-20

Choose a course for its substance

Compare the curriculum, assessment, entry requirements and city. Write down your goal: specialist knowledge, practical training or professional development. Ask the university directly about unclear details.

Separate tuition from immigration costs

Tuition and housing are not automatically included in a visa estimate. Record deadlines, deposits and refund conditions. Use the expected permission length for IHS estimates, not just teaching months.

  • Review the offer and CAS requirements with the university.
  • Check official financial and English-language requirements.
  • Check work and dependant conditions for your situation.
  • Prepare a first-month budget and a housing backup plan.

Before submitting

Review names, dates and evidence yourself. An academic offer does not by itself decide visa eligibility, and not every student can bring dependants. The official route guidance is the reference.

Sources and next step

Local rules can differ. Consult the source for your part of the UK before acting.
