Before arrival: keep a usable document pack

Bring together your temporary address, arrival transport and essential contacts. Keep secure backup copies of important documents beyond your phone. Do not upload passports or share codes to general planning tools. This is an organisational plan, not a universal official document checklist.

Week one: organise the essentials

Review your digital immigration status and the appropriate service for proving your rights when needed. Identify healthcare registration guidance and the council responsible for your address. Keep proving your right to work separate from applying for a National Insurance number.

  • Use your address and postcode consistently.
  • Separate arrival costs from regular monthly spending.
  • Ask in writing what housing payments include.
  • Record follow-up dates instead of relying on memory.

The rest of the month: replace assumptions with reality

After two weeks, compare actual spending with your plan. Cheaper accommodation can come with higher commuting costs. Open My UK Plan, select your stage and mark tasks complete. Your progress is stored in the same browser.
